It is one of the game’s most inspiring nights of the year and this year, Rugby League’s One Community Awards will take centre stage in Grand Final week.
The annual awards ceremony brings together Rugby League’s on and off-field heroes including some of the inspiring women in the game and from today until August 6, fans can submit their nominations for the 2010 One Community Awards at www.rloc.com.au.
Nominations for the One Community Awards, to be held at Sydney Town Hall on September 27, are open now and feature the Toyota National Volunteer of the Year, Harvey Norman Women in League achievement awards and five prestigious community awards.
From mid August, fans will also be able to vote for the major award of the night – the Telstra Ken Stephen Medal, for the NRL player who has demonstrated outstanding service to the game both on and off the field.
Last year’s Telstra Ken Stephen Medal winner, Eels co-captain Nathan Hindmarsh said: “What makes the One Community Awards really special is that they honour the mums and dads, volunteer coaches, club officials, referees and development officers, and all the unsung heroes who dedicate their lives to Rugby League.
“There’s so much great work that goes on in Rugby League communities and this night is a chance to recognise that and say thank you to some of the people who have inspired others with their work.”
Last year saw more than 1,200 nominations for the eight awards, with finalists coming from all levels of the game and from across Australia and New Zealand.
To nominate a grass-roots hero for one or more of the 2010 One Community Awards categories, log on to www.rloc.com.au and follow the links. Nominations close on Friday, August 6 at 5pm AEST.
