Performance Coach Re-Accreditation

Transitioning from High Performance Coach to Performance Coach Accreditation

As the NRL phases out the High Performance Coach (HPC) accreditation, suitable coaches currently holding this qualification will be supported with a clear pathway into the newly developed Performance Coach (PC) accreditation.

Transition Pathways

  • Preferred Pathway – Completion of the PC Course:
Coaches are encouraged to complete the full PC course, ensuring they engage with the latest content, applied learning tasks, and reflective practice processes. Click here to find out more information and to enrol in this course.
  • Alternative Pathway – Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Where completing the full course is not feasible, coaches may apply for RPL (if they hold a current HPC accreditation). This process acknowledges existing knowledge and experience while offering targeted bridging opportunities to address any new elements of the PC program (e.g., applied learning tasks and portfolio evidence).

RPL Requirements

In addition to demonstrating consistent involvement in a designated performance coaching setting (e.g., NSW/QLD Cup, NRL), applicants must provide evidence of meeting the requirements of the following six applied learning tasks:

  1. Designing, implementing, and evaluating a periodised pre-season training program.
  2. Enhancing feedback delivery.
  3. Engaging key stakeholders to drive success.
  4. Fostering a learning environment.
  5. Impacting coaching colleagues.
  6. Expanding professional development.

Evidence Guidelines

Applicants are to submit a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates their competency in relation to the above tasks. Examples of suitable evidence include:

  • Player Achievement - Documented improvement in player outcomes, supported by capacity assessments or performance data.
  • Training Observations - Constructive feedback from leaders, peers, or players based on observed coaching sessions.
  • Impact on Colleagues/Club - Contributions to mentoring, collaborative coaching, professional learning, or broader club initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Feedback - Feedback or reviews from club officials, peers, or external stakeholders (e.g., surveys, reports).
  • Coach Reflections - Documentation of professional growth, self-assessment, and evidence of adjustments made to practice.
  • Professional Development - Engagement in workshops, courses, conferences, or study visits that have enhanced coaching expertise.
