RE: Season Postponement due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus)
TO: All Rugby League Participants, Volunteers, Leagues and Clubs
DATE: Thursday, 19 March 2020
As you may already be aware, the National Rugby League (NRL), in partnership with State governing bodies, has postponed all Community Club Rugby League in Australia until at least the first weekend of May.
The postponement includes all junior and senior Community Club Rugby League competitions, training, representative fixtures, gala days and future League Stars programs.
The decision to suspend community rugby league activities immediately has been made after widespread consultation and is one that was not taken lightly.
Due to this postponement, delivery of the face to face workshop component of courses associated with the delivery of Community Rugby League, including Coach and Referee courses will be suspended effective from the 20th March until further notice. This will also apply to our Safety Education courses after consultation with our partners Sports Medicine Australia (SMA). To view SMA’s position please click here.
All online components will remain available and we encourage you to take this time to complete these aspects of the course/s relevant to you.
As a sport it’s important we play our part in slowing the spread of the virus but please be aware we are continuing to seek advice and guidance from Government and the relevant Health organisations. Our intention is to provide as much normality as possible and we will be re-opening the face to face workshops as early as the advice deems appropriate.
Registration for Club Rugby League season 2020 is still open at www.playrugbyleague.com. We look forward to our Community Rugby League participants returning to the game.
