Warming up before any type of activity is very important. It helps to reduce the risk of tearing or straining muscles through increasing heat throughout the body and increasing muscle suppleness.
The warm up should gradually increase in intensity and should include:
1. Activities that use the muscle groups that will be used during the training session or game.
2. Stretches that help increase muscle flexibility which will allow an effective response to any activity.
