Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants may provide evidence of existing current qualifications that can be used to substitute some course modules. All candidates will need to apply and be approved, for any acceptance of prior learning. 

Once the form is received, it will be assessed, and further information will be provided to the candidate on the next steps. 

It is important to avoid directly enrolling in a full course; the application should be completed first.  

CPR and First Aid 

Applicants who have the following qualifications can apply for RPL using the form at the bottom of this page.  

  • HLTAID009 Provide CPR completed in the past 12 months 
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid completed in the past 2 years.  

 

Equivalency Applications 

If a candidate has a qualification that is equivalent to the NRL Safety Education qualification, then equivalency may be granted. It is important that this application process is followed before a candidate acts in the role of a Sports Trainer. Under the NRL Policy, all Sports Trainers must hold an NRL Sports Trainer Certificate to practice in a Rugby League setting. 

The only qualifications that are fully equivalent to the NRL Sports Trainer Scheme are listed below. Each qualification will need to meet the additional parameters to be awarded the NRL equivalent qualification. These include: 

  1. Sports Medicine Australia Level 1 Sports Trainer: an applicant who holds a current SMA Level 1 Sports Trainer Accreditation will be required to complete the ‘The Role of a First Responder’ & 'Concussion Management' eLearning modules before the equivalency is granted. This is to ensure the Trainer is up to date with NRL-specific policies and techniques.  
  1. Sports Medicine Australia Level 2 Sports Trainer: an applicant who holds a current SMA Level 2 Sports Trainer Accreditation will be required to complete the ‘The Role of a First Responder’ & 'Concussion Management' eLearning modules before the equivalency is granted. Evidence of current HLTAID009 Provide CPR and HLTAID011 Provide First Aid as outlined above must also be submitted before equivalency can be approved.
